Glasser : The 'Leader-teacher'
What are the attributes of a quality teacher?
The leader teacher (as against the boss teacher) spends all his/her time and energy figuring out how to organise their class to see that it is to the students’ benefit for them to do quality work.
Four essentials of a leader teacher:
- Constantly engages the students in discussions of what quality is, in any activity.
- Models the activity so students can see what is expected and asks for their input as to how they can improve the activity and in the process develops an understanding of the need for continual quality improvement.
- Negotiates with students criteria to assess quality achievement and asks students to evaluate their own work.
- Ensures that all has been done to provide the students with: the necessary conditions, a safe environment, the appropriate skills, and a non coercive/non adversial atmosphere.
