Classroom Survey
Criteria - Mark you class out of 10 (10 being totally in place)
- The culture. What is the 'feeling', the 'climate' of the room - how are the relationships between all members?
- Does the room reflect the school vision, that is if one can be articulated by all in the school?
- What evidence of the personal world of the students as shown by personal (poetic) language, student questions, their particular talents?
- What evidence of an interactive problem solving approach across the curriculum as 'illustrated' by their questions, prior ideas, and research?
- What examples of quality work to be seen - work showing depth beyond normally expected for the age group? Is there evidence of quality improvement e.g. in bookwork?
- Any evidence of student goal setting and self-assessment using negotiated criteria?
- Does the room exhibit work (beyond 'normal' expectations) that shows the strong coaching role and 'focussed teaching' of the teacher? Is there evidence of modelling, demonstrating, scaffolding etc?
- Is there any evidence of new ideas being trialled in the class?
- Is there evidence of predictable classroom management that allows students to work independently (on group work or computers etc) while at the same time allow for 'focussed teaching'? Are students on task because they know how, what and when to do things? Are students involved in this planning?
- Does the overall classroom environment celebrate student creativity across a range of learning areas? Is their evidence of student study questions, goals, evaluations and processes involved in any work?
